How Does a Car Win an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Award?
The IIHS actually has two awards: Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+. Getting the "+" means the vehicle needs to include above-standard headlights across every trim level. Additional requirements include receiving a rating of "Good" on crash tests for the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap, moderate overlap front, side, and roof strength and head restraint tests. Vehicles must also receive an "Advanced" or "Superior" rating for available front crash prevention, vehicle-to-vehicle, and vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations.
